The Jedi Slayer GM draws its inspiration from an early concept developed for the dark figure who would eventually become Kylo Ren — a radically different saber design that traded the now-familiar crossguard silhouette for something far more mechanical, exposed, and experimental.
 
Wrapped in a near-black outer shell, Jedi Slayer initially presents itself as a hulking piece of industrial machinery. But remove the exterior shroud and the real show begins.
Underneath sits an intricate full-metal brass chassis, packed with exposed piping, layered mechanical components, illuminated accents and a multi-crystal chamber glowing from deep within the hilt. Red conduits travel along the exterior while black, brass, red and cool-blue elements create a striking contrast between the saber's ominous exterior and its almost obsessive internal engineering.
 
And this one doesn't stop at looking complicated.
 
The internal crystal system includes a rotating chamber element, accompanied by accent LEDs and an OLED display — giving the saber almost as much life with the blade removed as it has when fully ignited. This ELF Elite configuration specifies three crystals in total, with the lower chamber incorporating the rotating mechanism.
 
Fun Fact: Before Kylo Ren's final crossguard lightsaber design was established, the character went through numerous visual concepts during development of The Force Awakens. He was even referred to during production development as the “Jedi Killer” before the character became Kylo Ren. This hilt traces back to one of those early concept directions. Rather than the unstable crossguard saber eventually seen onscreen, the concept featured a large black hilt with an exposed mechanical interior and prominent external wiring. The design survives in The Art of The Force Awakens and has since developed something of a cult following among saber builders and collectors.
 
For a Grand Master saber, this is exactly the kind of ridiculous-in-the-best-way engineering I want to see. The chassis isn't something you hide because you have to. It's half the reason to own the saber.

OLED Display - Integrated OLED display adds another working detail to the chassis rather than relying solely on decorative greeblies.
Multi-Zone Accent Lighting - Blue, red, and internal chassis illumination bring the machinery to life even without the blade installed.
Two-Button Control - Two illuminated clear-blue rubber switches provide dedicated saber controls.
